Outdoor altar

An altar is a structure upon which offerings such as sacrifices are made for religious purposes. Altars are found at shrines, temples, churches, and other places of worship. The idea was present as early as Genesis 4: 3- 4 when Abel brought his sacrifice to the Lord and the sacrifice of Abraham. They foreshadowed God’s sacrifice of His only Son, Jesus Christ, on the cross at Calvary, for the sin of the world. At every Mass, Jesus is the priest, the altar and the sacrifice. (See Hebrews 13:10)

“ We have an altar from which those who serve the tent have no right to eat”.

(Hebrew 13:10)

The real worship of Christians is to put all that we are and have on the altar. Trials and tests reveal our obedience to God and the genuineness of our faith and trust in Him. They also produce steadfastness and strength of character.

Reflection: What do I need to sacrifice in my own life to follow God more closely?

THE LAST SUPPER

The Last Supper is the final meal that Jesus shared with his apostles in Jerusalem before His crucifixion. It is commemorated by Christians especially on Maundy Thursday. The Last Supper provides the scriptural basis for the Eucharist.

“ When you meet together, it is not the Lord’s supper that you eat.”

( ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭11:20‬ )

The Last Supper artwork by Leonardo da Vinci in 1495 is considered the most famous religious art in history.

“Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the lamb”.

( Revelation 19:9)

These words underscore how the Eucharist is no ordinary meal, for they recall a climactic moment when Jesus comes to unite Himself to His people in a great heavenly wedding feast.

Marthe Robin neither ate nor drank for more than fifty years! Her only food was the Eucharist that she received once a week and in a miraculous manner since she was physically unable to swallow.
